The Name of Jesus

Names are important.

Names give us a personal connection and a reliable method of reference, as seen in God’s and man’s naming of creation. (Gen 1).

I AM, or Yahweh, is the Name of the One True God revealed to Moses. (Ex 33:13-14). In most bible translations, “LORD” (all caps) represents “Yahweh”, which means “I AM” in Hebrew.

Yahweh sent His son whose name is Jesus into the world through the virgin birth. (Mat 1:21, Jn 10:30, Col 1:15-16). As Christianity began to spread, the apostles boldly preached and healed in the name of the risen Jesus. The name of Jesus represented the divine authority and power behind all they did. (John 14:13-14). They were persecuted for using the name of Jesus. (Acts 4:18).

“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:9-11).

Names are important. The name of Jesus is ALL important. If you know Jesus, His name represents the divine authority and power behind all you do as His follower.

If you don’t yet know Jesus, His name represents all of God’s love and grace in His desire bring us into perfect relationship with Him. Call on the name of Jesus and be saved. (Acts 4:11-12)
